True worship reveals who reigns in our hearts. From the command, “You shall have no other gods before Me” (Exodus 20:3; Deut. 5:7), to the call to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and strength” (Deut. 6:5; Matt. 22:35–38), Scripture consistently declares that our devotion, obedience, and loyalty belong to God alone. Idolatry—whether it be self, possessions, or worldly desires—is the greatest violation of this command, pulling us away from the One who gives life.
When Jesus was tempted, He answered, “Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only” (Matt. 4:8–10), reaffirming that worship is the ultimate expression of acknowledging God as God. Faith is not merely believing truth—it is living in loyalty and faithfulness to Him. As warned in 1 John 2:15–17 and Colossians 3:5, love for the world is incompatible with love for God; we cannot serve both.
If God is no longer first—if His Word is not our source—we become disconnected from what is good and eternal. Worship, then, becomes the clearest evidence of who truly leads our lives. So the question remains: does God hold the highest place in your heart, or is it time to renew your commitment and return Him to the head of your life?
